The John Wilson Orchestra
Conductor and arranger John Wilson formed the John Wilson Orchestra in 1994. The orchestra has an international reputation as a unique handpicked ensemble of some of the world’s finest musicians.
The orchestra specialises in recording contemporary film sound tracks and authentic concert performances of classic film musical scores. Outside of the concert hall the orchestra has contributed to sound track recordings for films including ‘The Gathering Storm’ and in 2007 was nominated for a Grammy Award for ‘Best Soundtrack’ for ‘Beyond the Sea’ starring Kevin Spacey as Bobby Darrin.
The orchestra has recorded critically acclaimed CDs for Vocalion including ‘This Is The John Wilson Orchestra’, ‘Orchestral Jazz’, ‘Shall We Dance?’ ‘Soft Lights and Sweet Music’, ‘Moonlight Becomes You’, ‘Film and Television Music of Angela Morley’ and ‘Dance Date’. In addition the John Wilson Orchestra has collaborated on a CD recording for Sir Paul McCartney.
The orchestra has performed on British TV including ‘Parkinson’ and was recently invited to perform a concert for HRH Prince of Wales American Foundation at Buckingham Palace.
In August 2009 the John Wilson Orchestra made its debut at the BBC Proms at the Royal Albert Hall in a concert celebrating the 75th anniversary of the MGM Film musicals. The concert was broadcast live on British television.
The John Wilson Orchestra will soon announce a national UK tour in November and December 2010.
